Fox Filmed Entertainment spokesman Chris Petrikin has a different view of the performance of “X-Men: First Class,” however.

“We regard ‘X-Men’ as a huge success,” he said. “It reignited the franchise and has done more than $350 million worldwide.” He added that the film performed strongly enough for Fox to make more sequels in the future and characterized the film division’s overall performance as “terrific.”

10-day X-Men: First Class sales

Between Sept 9-18th, XMFC DVDs have sold

1,036,179 units and made $18,371,918 

and the Blurays have sold

1,213,634 units and made $29,401,150

For a grand total of 2,249,811 units sold and $47,773,068.

Not bad for 10 days! But is it enough for a sequel? :( I hope so… Wolverine sold 3 million copies in its first week, First Class isn’t THAT far off…

James McAvoy… Wanted 2?

I’m excited for James that he’s got projects coming up (especially if he’s playing Elton John, though I’m not sure I see any need whatsoever for an Elton John movie), and now Wanted 2 he will presumably take on the role again.

But the selfish side of me worries that he will get so inundated with roles that he won’t be able to take up the Charles Xavier reins again. I’m not interested in an X-Men movie without him for Fassbender in it.

FOX, you better get your act together and greenlight a sequel already. With your three main characters on the rise your window to have them together again is shrinking. :(

I frequently come across comments or forum threads about the screwed up continuity XMFC presented. I’m remarkably unfazed by the timeline, but I know it does get to many people. For those who are much more aggitated by the “mistakes” than I am, this guy writes an excellent well-thought-out article on how to mentally mend the errors and learn to see past them.

Also he concludes his article with:

Oh, and can we just make it official that Xavier and Magneto were fucking each other during First Class?  Its definitely implied, and the story does need at least one legendary romance.

So yeah, worth reading. ;)

Not gonna lie, one of the reasons was purely so I could see if some of the lines would be translated more romantically.

They weren’t. If anything “I want you by my side” came out a lot more “business opportunity” than anything.

“Je te veux à mes côtés” is a good translation for it, didn’t sound too business-y to me :/ Or maybe I don’t get quite the impact in English.

I loved the “Vous faites un cobaye adorable, Charles” part, though, cause a man calling another one “adorable” in French ? Never heard that (and the “vous” just reminds everyone they JUST met, they shouldn’t say “you’re fucking cute” to each other).

What I do like when watching movies in French and English is to spot when characters switch from “vous” to “tu” :) (Erik and Charles say “tu” during the recruiting sequence)

He said “J’ai besoin de toi” (I need you) which to me makes the whole thing sound very practical, more “I could use a man with your talents” and less “I need you by my side because I need you”. French isn’t my first language so I’m not 100% on this but I’ve always thought that you don’t really use “besoin” the same way we might use “need” in English to describe someone we couldn’t live without.

And YES, the other thing I was looking for was the vous/tu switchover! I kinda wish the switch had happened before Cerebro tho. But yeah, hearing man-to-man “adorable” in French was BOSS! :D

Also did I hear it right or did Erik say “FOUS LE CAMP!” to the boys on the beach when he blasted them backwards??

I haven’t checked but do the deleted scenes come in French as well?

Didn’t remember it right, sorry. But “J’ai besoin de toi” IS really just as strong as need. Could be used for business, yes, but when you hold someone in your arms… sounds different ^___-

And I wouldn’t know for the deleted scenes, as the DVD only comes out on October 31st, here… but usually deleted scenes don’t get dubbed. I wonder how they’ll go for “darling”, because “chéri” is /really/ strong.

I have the Canadian bluray so we get English, French, and Spanish on it. Just checked the deleted scenes, no dubbing OR subtitling options but I imagine if you’re in France they’ll offer something. And yup, Erik says “foutez le camp” which is pretty strong!

Thanks for clearing up “besoin”. I guess I’ve always seen it as a “need for use” meaning. Like “j’ai besoin d’un chandail” kinda thing.

Also I *LOVE* that in the strip club instead of using “plus du thé, vicar?”, they address each other as “Bond” and “James” respectively. Clever.

What does Wolverine say though? It was an expression I had never heard before.

Actually, Matthew Vaughn was the one who made this movie so boss, not Singer. When you watch the behind the scenes you see all these little things Vaughn did to make the movie a cut above what it would have been without him. Including the famous Magneto theme! :D I think their involvement in this line should stay the same, with Vaughn as director and Singer as producer. :)

So, just to be clear, this means:

So I just watched X-Men First Class, and OH GOD… ALL MY CRYS FOR ERIK AND CHARLES.  TT^TT  

One of my favorite scenes was when Charles first teaches Erik about serenity and taps into his brightest memory and they share that moment of heartbreaking warmth…  I thought it would have been better if Charles had touched Erik to tap into that instead of always putting his fingers to his own temple.  Because… I ship them.  

So… I brushed up on my semi-realism and ended up with this.  Charles doesn’t look quite right in my opinion, and man do their hands need work, but so help me, I’m more comfortable with my silly animu style.  

It’s 1:30 AM, I should go to bed and stop doodling First Class.
