I was going through my art folder looking for a reference file I had made and came across this. I completely forgot about it, it was part of a series of Cherik doodles I did shortly after I first saw the film in theatres (2 YEARS ago, OMG). It was an idea I had for a ficlet that I never wrote. The drawings are shite cuz I just sketched it out in like 10 mins but hopefully you can see through my chicken scratch to get the gist of it. <3
Nonestablished, btw.
Reminder this is the official theme song for XMFC.
It’s not even subtext anymore.
This song is spot on about their relationship.
This was the song they played at the end of the movie in the version that screened in Japan. After having seen in 3x in theatres when I was living there, I was so disappointed when I watched the movie Stateside and it just had some of the score playing. I guess the song wasn’t able to be licensed in the US/Canada? Either way, the first time I saw this movie and THIS song played, it cemented the idea for me that Cherik was just maybe a thing.

This was an illustration to accompany a fic I wrote for my XMFC Airmail recipient. The premise was very simple: on a cold day in the winter that follows Cuba, Charles bumps into Alex at Darwin’s makeshift grave in the Xavier garden. They have a good conversation where Alex insinuates that he had (perhaps one-sided) feelings for his lost friend, and suggests that Charles can understand that “more than anyone”. Charles reminisces about his time with Erik (where nothing did happen between them after all) and Alex begins the very long road of making peace with Darwin’s death.
It was horribly, horribly written which is why I’m giving you the summary instead of the actual fic, but I did like how this turned out. Paint Tool Sai.
So, um… I’m back from Japan…
A lot of the cities I toured around had a Mandarake in it so I would stop by and look for Cherik doujinshi. There wasn’t much sadly! Wincest (Supernatural) always dominated the “movie” shelves, along with Sherlock Holmes (the RDJ/JL version).
Not gonna lie, probably 90%+ of the 50 or so stories in these are R18 (one of them is actually R20 for, erm, creative uses of Charles’ telepathy) and all but ONE of them involves Erik bottoming. Very different eh?
I’m working on scanlating Finis (top middle) for y’all. It’s entirely SFW and it’s incredibly well drawn and bittersweet. But I might scanlate a couple more, we’ll see. :) Haven’t had a chance to properly flip through all of them yet!

Take That - Love Love
Nice ending choice for this already very heterosexual movie.
I remember laughing when the song came on during the credits. Subtext, what subtext?
Yup, I was really thrown by this too. Only 10 mins earlier had I begun to suspect Charles and Erik were more than friends, and then I get hit with this song: “Why don’t you teach your heart to feel, and give it love love, gimme gimme what I need”. It’s an appropriate song for them specifically, “We’re on a first class journey from the gods to the son of man”. In an interview, Vaughn mentioned that he sat with Take That and hand-picked this song. In a later interview he went back and claimed he picked it “to attract women to the movie” (yeah, sometimes the shit Vaughn says…) but even the most newbie director would know that NO ONE GOES TO SEE A MOVIE FOR THE END-CREDITS SONG. They just look up the soundtrack on the internet like everyone else.
Sad thing is, I heard this song didn’t play during the credits in the US or Canada(and presumably a few other countries). I wonder if people’s opinions on the validity of Cherik would have been different had they heard this song instead of what played?

This confession’s request has been filled by flaminghart over here.
Wow I so need for this to happen in the sequel…
It’s a hotel window-seat in a lull between mutants – in a lull between here and there and here again – in a lull between the pair of them, and whatever this is that they have become. It’s a hotel window-seat, the wood cheap beneath them, and the key hanging from a frayed red ribbon, tucked in Charles’s trouser pocket. Erik is drinking his coffee black, and Charles is bathed in sunlight.
SEXY!
Incendiary.
Is it just me, or does it look like they’re both mentally calculating the distance between them with an eye to leaping across the table to get at each other?
